Canarian cooking has a lot of African, Latin-American and Spanish influences, as well as their own traditional dishes. It?s among the most innovative cuisine in the whole of Spain.

I recommend that you try the local cuisine while staying in Costa Adeje.
Canarian cooking preserves all the flavour of the food and maintains simplicity when it comes to cooking.

Fresh or salted fish, vegetables, soups, meat, are all staple ingredients, and then of course we have the potatoes, gofio (roasted maize) and cheese. There are also some great desserts.

Often, the buffets offered at the hotels in the South of Tenerife, only have potatoes with ?mojo? sauce, but the island has so much more to offer! Most locals do eat that every day though, so you can?t leave Tenerife without trying ?papas arrugadas con salsa de mojo? (roast potatoes with a local sauce).

The waters along the coast are brimming with different fish species. A dream for fresh fish lovers! The ?guiso? (stew) is one of the most popular dishes on all the islands.

Nothing better to wash down Canarian food, than a great wine from Tenerife, these are clearly identifiable due to the volcanic ground that the vines grow in and the islands? excellent climate.

The most popular dish in Costa Adeje is ?papas arrugadas?: they are potatoes cooked with their skins on in a lot of very salty water. They can be eaten with popular sauces, a spicy one which dates back many years, with an oil base, garlic, chilli pepper and smoked paprika; it?s called ?mojo?.

Another famous dish from the Canary Islands is ?gofio canario?, a type of flour bread.

In Costa Adeje you can also enjoy a great variety of tropical fruits, the mainly canarian bananas, but also mangos, pineapples and papayas.

You just have to try the wine, the papas, el mojo and the cheeses.

When it comes to food Tenerife has great fish, wonderful wine, awesome desserts and lovely fresh fruit and vegetables.
